Batwara 1947 (originally announced as Lahore 1947) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language historical period drama scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 14 August 2026. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under the Aamir Khan Productions banner, the film stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, and others in pivotal roles. Adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai, the film presents a deeply emotional story set during one of the most turbulent chapters in Indian history.

Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition of India, the story follows a Muslim refugee family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore after the division of the country. When they move into a government-allotted haveli, they discover that an elderly Hindu woman (Shabana Azmi) still lives there and refuses to leave the home where she has spent her entire life. What begins as a tense conflict over property and identity gradually transforms into a moving tale of humanity, compassion, and mutual respect. Amid the violence and uncertainty of Partition, Batwara 1947 explores how kindness and understanding can rise above hatred, offering a powerful reflection on coexistence, resilience, and the shared human experience.
