The Rise of Ashoka (2026)

The Rise of Ashoka is a 2026 Kannada-language period action-drama that was released in theatres on 27 February 2026. The film is directed by Vinod V. Dhondale and stars Sathish Ninasam and Sapthami Gowda in lead roles, with music composed by Poornachandra Tejaswi. Apart from Kannada, the film was also released in dubbed versions in Telugu and Tamil. Set in rural Karnataka during the 1970s, the movie presents a gritty social story highlighting injustice and exploitation faced by marginalized communities.

The story takes place in the village of Avarathi, where a ruthless broker named Kutty Babji (Sampath Maithreya) controls the temple’s tonsuring unit and exploits the barber community for very low wages. Ashoka (Sathish Ninasam), the educated son of a barber, dreams of escaping this life by getting a respectable government job as a revenue officer. However, after witnessing the ongoing cruelty and caste-based exploitation against his people, Ashoka decides to reject his appointment letter and rises in rebellion to fight for justice and restore the dignity of his community.
