Salim-Sulaiman

Salim–Sulaiman are an acclaimed Indian music composer and producer duo consisting of brothers Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant, best known for their prolific work in Hindi cinema (Bollywood). Born and raised in Mumbai in a musically inclined family with roots in Mundra, Kutch, Gujarat, they were inspired early on by their father, musician Sadruddin Merchant. Salim trained in piano at the Trinity College of Music in London, while Sulaiman developed his expertise in percussion and tabla under renowned maestros such as Taufiq Qureshi and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
The duo began their career by composing jingles and background scores before making a strong mark in mainstream films. Over the years, they have composed music for more than 100 movies, blending Indian classical, folk, electronic, and contemporary styles. Salim–Sulaiman are behind some of Bollywood’s most memorable soundtracks, including Chak De! India, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Fashion, and Neal ’n’ Nikki. Their music is known for rich orchestration and emotional depth, and they have also worked with pop artists, TV commercials, and international collaborations. Salim has served as a judge on popular music reality shows like Indian Idol, while the duo continues to innovate through independent projects and live performances that highlight their lasting impact on Indian music.
