Kumar Sanu

Kumar Sanu, born as Kedarnath Bhattacharya on 20 October 1957 in Kolkata, West Bengal, is a legendary Indian playback singer whose melodious voice defined Hindi film music of the 1990s. He rose to nationwide fame with the blockbuster soundtrack of Aashiqui (1990) and went on to become one of the most in-demand singers in Bollywood. Known as the “Melody King of Bollywood,” Kumar Sanu recorded songs not only in Hindi but also in several Indian languages including Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Punjabi.
During his peak years, he won a record five consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer from 1991 to 1995 for iconic films such as Aashiqui, Saajan, Deewana, Baazigar, and 1942: A Love Story. He also holds a Guinness World Record for recording 28 songs in a single day. With a career spanning romantic ballads, soulful melodies, and unforgettable duets, Kumar Sanu’s contribution to Indian music remains unparalleled. In recognition of his immense impact on the arts, he was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009, and his evergreen songs continue to be loved across generations.
