Kaantha (2025)

Kaantha is a 2025 Indian period drama thriller set in 1950s Madras. Originally made in Tamil, the film was also released in a dubbed Telugu version. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the movie presents a high-concept “film within a film” narrative that explores the golden age of Tamil cinema. The film stars Dulquer Salmaan in a layered and intense role, which many critics compared to his acclaimed performance in Mahanati. The cast also includes Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani, Rana Daggubati, Ravindra Vijay, and Gayathrie Shankar. Music is composed by Jhanu Chanthar, and the film was released theatrically on 14 November 2025.

The story revolves around an ego-driven clash between reigning superstar T.K. Mahadevan (Dulquer Salmaan) and his mentor Ayya (Samuthirakani). When Mahadevan takes over Ayya’s female-centric film Shaantha and renames it Kaantha to suit his heroic image, creative tensions escalate into a dark and mysterious turn of events. The narrative later transforms into a gripping whodunnit, led by Inspector “Phoenix” Devaraj (Rana Daggubati), a flamboyant, theatre-loving police officer who investigates the unfolding mystery.
