Coolie (2025)

Coolie is a Tamil-language action thriller, also released in Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film features a massive ensemble cast including Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, with a special appearance by Aamir Khan. Marking Rajinikanth’s 171st film as a lead actor, the movie is mounted on a grand scale, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. It was released theatrically on 14 August 2025.

The story follows Deva (Rajinikanth), a former coolie union leader living a peaceful life in Chennai, who is drawn back into violence while investigating the mysterious death of his close friend Rajasekhar (Sathyaraj). His search leads him into a dangerous clash with a powerful gold-smuggling syndicate led by Simon (Nagarjuna Akkineni) and his trusted aide Dayal (Soubin Shahir). Though the film received mixed reviews for its screenplay and pacing, it was praised for Rajinikanth’s screen presence and the music. Despite critical opinions, Coolie became a huge commercial success, emerging as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025 and crossing ₹500 crore at the global box office.
