Assi (2026)

Assi (meaning “Eighty”) is a Hindi-language investigative courtroom thriller directed by Anubhav Sinha. The film serves as a hard-hitting social commentary on the prevalence of sexual violence in India. Its title is derived from a disturbing statistic—an average of 80 reported sexual assault cases occur every day in the country, roughly one every twenty minutes. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 20 February 2026.

The story follows Sanyukta (Taapsee Pannu), a determined and relentless lawyer who fights against systemic failures while seeking justice for a survivor, played by Kani Kusruti, amid a wave of unexplained assault cases. The ensemble cast also includes Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, and Seema Pahwa. Through its intense courtroom drama and investigative narrative, Assi explores themes of justice, accountability, and the social realities surrounding crimes against women.
